Principal's Message

Dear SLHS Students and Families:

Welcome back to school!  This is an unconventional start to an unconventional year, and we are so ready to learn and grow with you!  We are looking forward to finding new ways to connect with students and families (this is our specialty!), and forging innovative pathways for learning that may change the course of education for the long term.

There are a ton of details that we are still waiting on, but here are some operating understandings.

  • School will start on Wednesday, 9/9.  The schedule on this day will be a little different than the regular schedule - the only thing you need to figure out right now is how to get to Family class on that day.
  •  We will be virtual for the first quarter, at the least.
  • Classes will be synchronous (“live”, you need to “tune in”) on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 9am - 12:10pm.
  • You will have other opportunities and expectations including outside work, small groups, etc., in the afternoons and on Wednesdays.
  •  School Schedule:



  • Attendance will be taken!
  • We will still have SSR - it will just be done asynchronously ~ stay tuned for more details.
  • Schedules will be available in Skyward and Canvas on 9/8.  All classes will be accessible through Canvas.
  • Expect an email from a teacher that gives you the link for your first-day activities.  CHECK EMAIL AT LEAST TWICE DAILY.  This is the only way to make sure you have all the information you need.
  •  Chromebooks will be distributed to Freshmen on campus on 9/9; any other students transferring into SLHS or who need a Chromebook (don’t have yours from last spring): click this link to schedule an appointment for pickup, or call 425-431-1211 or email techsupport@edmonds15.org to arrange an appointment for pickup at the district office.
  • There are no ORCA passes being distributed because we will not come to the school building.

Here are several informational items and forms that may be useful for you as we move into the new year.

  • Since we are entirely online, your access to Skyward/Family Access is crucial.  Click here to get the information on how to set up your own account, and even get an app to monitor grades and attendance from your smartphone.*
  •  Here is the Food & Nutrition Services site, where you can access the very important free/reduced lunch meals application.*  Please be sure to fill it out, because you may qualify for other services, too. You can drop the completed form off in our DropBox at the end of the breezeway, or you can mail it directly to Food Services using the address on the form, or you can scan and email it back to SLH office manager Chris Kratz at KratzC@edmonds.wednet.edu
  •  Clothes for Kids is up and running.  You can learn more on the attached form.*
  •  The district will also be using Canvas as our Learning Management System (LMS).  Students already have account access - just go to edmonds15.instructure.com from your district-issued Chromebook.  Parents can also have access to their students’ Canvas information.  Visit this site to set up your access.
  •  One final piece of the communication puzzle will be that we are using Remind as a tool this year.  Stay tuned for information on how to set up those accounts as well.

My operating mantra is a quote from Maya Angelou: “Every storm runs out of rain.”  We will look back on these times someday, and life will have resumed some normalcy, hopefully enriched by the lessons we learned about ourselves, our planet, our community, and having achieved fairer, more equitable access to our society for our entire community.  We are so glad you’re here!
